John “Jay” Reid has spent twenty years defending U.S. and foreign based companies in complex business, catastrophic personal injury and product liability cases in courts throughout Florida and the Southeastern United States. Jay represents clients in the automotive, trucking, medical device, consumer product, insurance and theme park industries. His expertise includes evaluating complicated fact patterns and evidence in the areas of automotive and mechanical engineering, accident reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, safety regulations and standards, biomechanics, medicine and injury causation. He has become familiar with the substantive, procedural and evidentiary requirements of multiple states through his regional litigation and trial practice.
Jay has tried numerous cases to jury verdict including wrongful death, catastrophic injury and business cases. In addition to his trial work, a significant portion of Jay’s practice involves serving as national discovery counsel for a major automotive manufacturer. He also spends a great deal of time preparing corporate witnesses for depositions and trial testimony. He has worked with numerous corporate engineers and scientists to prepare them on the substantive information about which they will testify, as well as the challenges of undergoing direct and cross-examination. In addition, Jay regularly deposes scientists, engineers, physicians and other experts around the country in the defense of his clients’ cases.
Jay writes and speaks frequently on a variety of legal issues, including product liability law and trial tactics. He serves on DRI’s Product Liability Committee and has been named one of Orlando Florida’s Top Lawyers in product liability for 2011, 2012 & 2013. He is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell®
When he's not working, Jay enjoys running marathons, Tough Mudder© racing, being outdoors, and spending time with his wife Kimberly and his daughters Shannon and Catherine.
